15th November - Mamhead obelisk car park - Blobhoblin

Looking out of the window on Saturday you could have been forgiven for thinking that this weekends hash was going to be a wash out. However, Blob had covered that off and organised fine weather for the atheletes that turned up and also arranged a personal parking space for Up Yours.

Everyone was there ready for the off, apart from Horny Woman who had made contact with Spocky Bitz and advised that she was currently conducting a tour of the Haldon Hill car parks (and she says she's not into dogging!!).

After being completely misled and pointed in the wrong direction by the On On sign on the ground, the hare intervened and called the hashers back. Away the hashers raced with Stat Nav finding the right direction and calling the rest of the pack on. However, simple lad as he is, was totally confussed by the next sign. Away he strod into the undergrowth, before Tampa arrived to point out that he should have followed the trail up onto and through the wooden obstacle course. Tampa's higher IQ was quickly brought into question when he was first to slip off the wooden obstacle!!

On the hashers raced, walked and crawled through the woods and onto a hash halt. Looking into the distance we could see to figures running towards us......could it be 'real' runners?.....don't think so.....could it be Del Boy and Rodney dressed as Batman and Robin?.....don't think so but this did look the most likely.....or could it be Horny Woman and Odd Bitz?.....it was, dogging over Horny Woman had caught up with the hash.

A warning was provided by the hare that we would encountering a road crossing - a warning more for the elderly and infirm in the hash than the children I believe!! Away they raced over the road and onto the next hash halt.

From here it was briefly down hill and Spocky Bitz could be seen carrying more Top Cat to the fish hook (we have noticed that you've learnt very quickly to slow down at fish hooks Top Cat!).

Further downhill and a back check latter (or is that a Check Back, Tampa and Isosceles?) the hashers crossed the river and up through the woods and onto the sweetie stop.

The hardest chewiest sweets were handed out, eventually finished chewing back at the car park, and the lovely view down the valley was enjoyed by all.

On On went the hashers, straight into a long-short split, although we think the longs could have been shorter than the shorts. Once the shorts caught up we were on our way again. Fish hooks were being dished out to numerous people before we arrived at another hash halt marked out with a long-short split sign and an accompanying question mark. The hare confessed to not remembering which way was the long and which was the short. A gamble was taken and for the second time today the longs arrived way before the shorts at the next regroup. Infact the shorts never arrived so the hare sent us on and up the hill we raced before turning and heading back to the car park, where the shorts were already waiting.

Another lovely day and a very enjoyable hash. Thank Blobhoblin and your trusty assistance Groucho.

8th November - Keepers Cottage - Groucho

As 11am approached the hashers had parked up, where they could, and Groucho called the circle. Horny Woman called ahead advising she was on her way and we were not to go without her and then Odd-Bitz arrived and proceeded to break up our hash circle by driving straight through the middle of it (not the actions of a responsible sherrif!!).

Stat-Nav made an announcement on behalf of Tuned-In and Radiohead, after 36 hours of painful labour they were now the proud parents of a little baby girl. Stat-Nav added that in admiration of Tuned-In's efforts he had asked Radiohead what 36 hours of the worse ever and apparently never ending pain could possibly feel like......"well it's kind of like one of Groucho's boardgames!", replied Radiohead.

Anyway, once the circle had re-gathered we were sent off by the Hare, with Woodpecker being the last to arrive but first out the blocks. Down hill we went (metaphorically so did this hash) and onto a check where Tampa went racing off following the flour - back to this in a minute! In the meantime Odd-Bitz had found a 6ft long branch and threw it, playing fetch with Jaws!!! In a valiant effort Jaws did try his hardest to bring back the stick, even though it was ten times the size of himself.

In the meantime, On-On was hard in the distance. Tampa had found the trail. As the hashers, and the hare, followed down the hill we came to a cross??? I can't be this way then??? The hare called everyone back to the check and the returning Tampa was not impressed that he had found 3dots and a check. He had followed the trail correctly through the woods and now expressed his displeasure at being called all the way back up the hill.

Confussion over and back down the hill we went, through the marshy ground at the bottom, where Emerald avoided her first fish-hook of the day. Through the woods we twisted and turned before racing up to the sweet stop. Twin Peaks had hidden the sweets so well that she had to find them herself.

At the sweet stop it was announced that we were celebrating a hash birthday and the usual hash chorus broke out scaring all the dogs and most of the wildlife living in the woods. Many Happy Returns Scarf-face.

On-on, and we set off on the trail, Top Cat keeping pace with the front runners (Radiohead has a challenger in the making here!). On to the long-short split, which also contain a short/long and a long/long. Slip Shod was racing so fast down the hill he missed what the second set of signs actually said and the smile was soon wiped off Stat-Nav's face as he lost his shoe and had to go back to retrieve it from the middle of really dirty puddle!

Where the shorts and longs met again we came to the "Wall of Death"!! Tail lamp lead the way - the wrong way!! The rest of the hash negotiated the "Wall of Death" and once we were all at the top we were instructed back down again!! Thank you Hare!

It wasn't long before we were back in the car park enjoying beers and nuts. Several fines were dished out (can't remember them all now) and we had a naming. Congratualtions Flat Foot.

A good hash - thank you Groucho (assisted by Twin Peaks).

Welcome to Baby Radio GaGa!!!!

Radiohead and Tuned In are very happy to announce the safe arrival of Radio GaGa at 3.34am on Friday 6th November 2009. She weighed 8lb 9oz and you'll be pleased to know that Bag Lady arrived just in time to say the first hello of the hashers!!

Sunday 1st November - Four Firs - Twice Daily, Pebble Dash & Runs Again

As 11am approached the hashers were already carefully chosing their parking spaces, mindful that Up Yours was still to arrive. Blobhoblin had already errected a special sign saving a extra wide space especially for Up Yours.....and the end she did not show!!

We were asked to circle up and making a second appearance JY Kelly (hash name not requested this week!!) had turned up again. The hares gave numerous mis-leading instructions....was it laid on the right, on the left, fish-hooks are marked, fish-hooks aren't marked and there was a sweetie stop.....but no sweets! And then it was On On!!

The hashers raced (loosely speaking) down the paths, through a marsh and into the forest. Spocky-Bitz was calling On On but nobody could see how to get to him on the other side of the ferns until Stat-Nav and JY Kelly decided to run straight through.

The hashers continued on down various paths and steep ravines which T-Mouse decided to spring down from side to side (reminiscent of Zebedee off the magic roundabout). We crossed the stream, that was flowing a lot faster this week due to all the rain overnight, and along the bank avoiding the slippery tree roots. At least most of us avoided the slippery tree roots....Stat Nav's super grip Soloman were not up to the job and over he went, sideways!

Up the hill and what appeared at first to be an impromptu Hash halt only turned out to be a Spocky prank and as soon as everyone got there he called "back check!" Back down to the adjacent path and through what appeared to be quick sand terrain.....most Hashers choosing to avoid the worst bits.....Blobhoblin braving it and going right in!

Not much further and we reached the sweet stop. At which point, some conferring was initiated and we all agreed that the Hares had stated that there was two Lomg - Short splits (and the longs were long!). So had we missed the splits?

After tucking into jelly babies and fruity allsorts we were sent on our way and quickly discovered the first of the Long - Short splits. and boy was it long!!....all the way around the quarry long!!

At the point we were all due to meet again, Spocky-Bitz missed the re-group sign and carried on running into the distance and over the yonder hill. A second sweetie stop was called and Tampa tried his hardest to pinch the sweets saved for Tuned-In and Fruity-Bitz. We waited for Woodpecker to catch-up and then the Hares called us On On again. The longs soon found Spocky and the shorts headed directly back to the car park. On the longs, the Hares had cunningly placed a fish hook at the top of the hill....but more cunningly Spocky, Stat-Nav and Twin Peaks claimed not to have seen it. JY Kelly let the side down and returned to the Hare waiting at the bottom of the hill (he really needs to understand City of Exeter hash culture).

We crossed the road had another re-group, passed 4 or 5 On Home signs and headed back to the car park, where Tuned-In and Fruity-Bitz were already waiting.

We circled-up again and the sherrif issued fines to The Hares, Tail Lamp, Fruity-Bitz, Spocky, Twin Peaks, Stat-Nav and Tampa (possibly some others but I can't remember!). A very good hash - well done the Hares!!
